BTV Solo; Stop cheating yourself, make your own original beats
**THIS ARTICLE APPLIES TO ANY ARTIST, RAPPER OR SINGER AT THE INDIE OR MIXTAPE LEVEL**
The trend over the last 10 years has been to release mixtapes or “street albums” using “industry beats” (beats that have already been released by a major artist) also known as “dubs”.
This wasn’t invented in the last ten years, artists have been doing it since the early days of Hip Hop, but since mixtape marketing was re-invented with the success of artists like 50 Cent and Lil’ Wayne, industry hopefuls and amateurs with that entrepreneurial spark have tried to cash in on the idea. Here’s the thing, it’s not 2003 anymore.
Times change and so does what the people want. While I’m certainly not dismissing the idea of a well thought or creative dub every now an then, I only consider it icing on the cake, not the whole meal. And if all someone does is consume icing all day they’re gonna get sick.
YOU’RE NOT THE ONLY ONE DOING IT
There is too much access today for just about everything anybody wants at the click of a mouse, that includes industry instrumentals that even my 9 year old nephew raps over, mimicking these Youtube preteens he watches that do the same. Is this what you want to be associated with as an artist, or better yet compete with?
Just because he’s 9 doesn’t mean he can’t start his own blog or Youtube and spread music just the same way you do, chances are people will check for him quicker because he’s a kid and it stands out more than an 18 – 25 year old who’s still karaoke-ing his way through his “career”.
TAKE YOUR SOUND INTO YOUR OWN HANDS
I’m not trying to diss anyody here by comparing to my nephew, it’s quite the opposite, as a producer and music lover I’m trying to illustrate a point so that artists may realize they could be doing so much more. As I said earlier, it’s a new day and people aren’t looking for the same things in music that they were 10 years ago.
With the price of do-it-yourself recording systems and online promotions becoming something that anybody with internet access can do themselves, you have waves of other artists trying to beat you to the punch, you need to stand out now more than ever.
MAKING YOUR OWN BEATS
If this sounds like too much work, then maybe you’re in the wrong business because there are some real hustlers out there ready to get in where YOU fit in, but they have that extra drive to do it. But the truth is, it isn’t nearly as hard as you think with todays technology.
BTV Solo has everything you need to make your own pro audio music tracks. Loaded with over 1000 original sounds, a sampler with an auto-chop feature to get those precise chops you hear in the pros, and completed with all the effects you need not only to create new sound, but to mix and master your product when it’s ready (no more worrying about an expensive studio bill)
YOU’RE NO LONGER JUST MAKING DEMOS BUT FULL ON INDUSTRY ALBUMS
This is something the other generic artists downloading beats online won’t have, so you’ve already beat them at step one in the game and now it’s up to you to keep building.
AT THE END OF THE DAY
The more you invest in yourself, the more you’re going to get out of everything you do, especially when it comes to your music. Create your own place and your own sound within the industry, do for yourself what others were too lazy to do and you’ll be on your way to a long and successful career.
